And Shelby makes it 2

Posted on Posted in Our Dogs

Hi peeps, Shelby here  .. oh mega happy news to share … I’ve been successfully adopted !!!!

But let me take you back a bit .. rewind to Christmas week (not the best run up to Christmas for me) …  my family surrendered me to the Louth County Pound .. I was only 6 months old at the time .. still a baby – and there I was, lonely and frightened in the Pound – nobody came to save me and time was ticking away …

But that’s where DDR come in .. they rescued me and arranged for me to go to temporary holding with the Louth SPCA .. and incredibly, the day before Christmas Eve, just when I thought I’d be spending Christmas alone, DDR managed to get a foster for me – the lovely Danielle rushed out to collect me and welcomed me into her family … they are no strangers to us rescue pooches, they’ve adopted Charlie and Princess Sophie … so I suppose it was fate that I ended up with them – they completely spoilt me over Christmas – Santa Paws even knew I was there xxx

Now for the embarrassing bit – for some reason everyone thought I was a girl – so much so that they had all named me Eve .. Shalom & Paddy had become smitten with me .. they are in-law’s of Danielle and also no strangers to DDR – they’ve previously adopted Hitchens ..  so arrangements were made and I was away off on trial homing (still everyone thinking I’m a girl!!!!) … and everything went superbly .. Hitchens made me feel super welcome and I was starting to come out of my shell .. I was starting to feel safe again ..

Finally, they decided to check on my “family jewels” and eventually copped I am a boy – to say they were all mortified is an understatement – the fools !! So a rethink on my name was required immediately – and what a cool name I’ve now got – Shelby – am sure all you Peaky Blinder fans will love it too !!!

My mom & dad are simply amazing .. their love and devotion is without question .. they carefully considered all the responsibility of having a second dog … me & Hitchens get on brilliantly – which makes everything so easy .. the extended family are all willing to help out dog sitting and dog walking – so much so that we get walked every day while mom & dad are at work .. I have the best dog cousins in Charlie and Princess Sophie … and they were all there last Friday night to witness my mom & dad put pen to paper and formally adopt me .. so here’s some photos of me with my amazing new family – I am one lucky boy xxx Shelby xxx

Happy every after’s like Shelby don’t happen every day .. but when they do, it restores your faith in humanity … another successful local rehome ..  this is what your donations help us achieve – saving the life of a young dog like Shelby  xxx

On behalf of the team at DDR – thank you to Fiona in Louth SPCA, to Danielle for providing emergency foster, to Shalom & Paddy & Hitchens for welcoming another DDR pooch into their home & for their generous donation to DDR xxx
